Caracteristics
Reducing hosted the Provincial Guarani Missions and administrative center. The Cabildo de Candelaria, the religious left in charge Missions after the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767, recognized the Board of Governors named in Buenos Aires. By the treaty of commerce and limits Asuncion signed in 1811, Candelaria, along with four other towns Paraná, was in the custody of Paraguay.
Recovered in 1815 by Andrés Guacurarí (“Andresito”) in 1821 were taken back by the Paraguayans, remained in possession until 1865.
Current status
The most notorious of old traces are reduced in areas of current Unit
Candelaria Penitentiary; remains persistent elevation correspond to higher headquarters and workshops, a building that had a high floor and probably a basement. These testimonies, the most monumental, reach a height of between six and seven meters. They can be seen in full height walls, columns and floors. Other remains less important, persist in the gaps between building houses and in the streets.
